The Berklee Global Jazz Institute (BGJI) is seeking a motivated, creative, and collaborative Academic Assistant to join our dynamic team. This is an exciting opportunity for a Berklee CPGJ graduate who is passionate about music, education, and the power of jazz to drive social change.

Reporting to BGJI Artistic Director Danilo Pérez and Interim Managing Director Gregory Groover Jr., the Academic Assistant plays a key role in supporting the academic and artistic vision of the BGJI. The role involves hands-on work in academic programming, student support, archival documentation, performance participation, and event coordination—all while helping to foster an environment of innovation, inclusion, and global collaboration.

In this student-centered, mission-driven position, the Academic Assistant empowers the next generation of global artists by helping bring BGJI’s forward-thinking, socially engaged curriculum to life.

What You’ll Do:

  • Assist BGJI courses such as the Danilo Pérez Workshop, Global Jazz Big Band, Directed Studies, and more by supporting faculty, visiting artists, and students.

  • Aid students with assignments, compositions, rehearsals, outreach trips, and academic peer advising.

  • Organize teaching materials (e.g. creating charts, setting up Canvas, maintaining Google Drive).

  • Perform in BGJI ensemble courses, student/faculty projects, and recording sessions.

  • Support planning and execution of events like the BGJI Summit, Symposium, workshops, and visiting artist sessions.

  • Maintain archives, operational records, and documentation for institutional knowledge.

  • Create and share marketing content across social media and other platforms.

Who You Are:

  • A graduate of the Berklee CPGJ Master’s Program.

  • Highly musical with fluency on your primary instrument and ability to interpret diverse musical styles.

  • Organized, self-motivated, and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Technically proficient in notation, office software, and possibly graphic design or social media tools.

  • A clear communicator and effective collaborator.

  • Spanish fluency is a plus, but not required.

This is a paid, part-time position (20–30 hours per week) with occasional evening and weekend hours depending on program needs.
