The Data & Software Engineering team in the Data, Technology and Engineering (DTE) organization is seeking an experienced technology lead to help create, maintain, and implement the technology strategy, platforms and applications that enable data quality (DQ) across the enterprise.
As the Associate Director, Data Quality, you will report to the Director, Data Governance and be responsible for building and managing data quality platforms, processes and strategy. You will work across the organization with data engineers, analysts, data stewards and product owners to define, implement, and optimize our data quality platform and processes. You will directly impact the Vertex data strategy by delivering the data quality tools, integrations, patterns and processes that enable observability and trust in data used by Vertexians to serially innovate for our patients.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute DQ capability and technology roadmaps focused on delivering for Vertex business priorities across new data quality demands.
- Collaborate with technology portfolio managers, business engagement leads, governance leads and business users to identify and collect DQ technology and platform requirements.
- Develop and promote data quality frameworks, standards, and processes tailored to life sciences data.
- Enable data observability, ensuring comprehensive monitoring and issue detection across data assets.
- Leverage AI and automation techniques to enhance data quality coverage, reduce manual effort, and accelerate remediation.
- Collaborate with the Data Governance team to define and deliver data quality metrics, driving continuous improvement and accountability.
- Provide guidance and training on data quality tools and methodologies to technical and non-technical constituents.
- Develop and manage SOPs for ongoing data quality assessment, remediation and exception handling.
- Own and maintain the DQ platforms at Vertex and manage the platform strategy and roadmaps aligned to business needs. (Quality tools, Observability, Issue Lifecycle, Integration)
- Manage the technology teams running DQ technology and platforms.
- Work closely with DTE Compliance, Data Privacy, Data Security and Quality Assurance groups to ensure compliance with all appropriate regulations, as well as our DTE system lifecycle and change management requirements.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Proven record building and delivering a data quality program and platform at enterprise scale in a dynamic and diverse data environment.
- Proven track record in deploying a diverse range of data quality tools (Great Expectations, SODA) and platforms (Collibra DQ, Monte Carlo, Anomalo)
- Strong background in data observability and integrations.
- Strong understanding of data engineering, analytics, and data pipeline architectures.
- Familiarity with AI/ML techniques for data profiling, anomaly detection, and automation.
- Excellent analysis, problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
- Strong written/oral communication and presentation skills.
- Prior experience running IT managed services or outsourced/offshore teams.
- Strong agile tool (Jira, BitBucket and Confluence) skillset.
- Superior MS Office skills, including MS Project & Visio, Excel and PowerPoint Experience.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree required (preferably in technology discipline).
- 8+ years of data engineering, data management, or related roles within life sciences or associated industries
- 3+ years’ experience delivering and defining data quality capabilities and practices across functions
Pay Range:
$156,000 - $234,000Disclosure Statement:
The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
