CityLab/Watershed Outreach Educator - FY26Department Summary
The CityLab and Watershed Access Lab programs offer single-day STEM experiences for elementary, middle, and high school students, both on and off campus. These programs allow students to step into the role of scientists, engaging in hands-on investigations designed to spark curiosity and build a strong foundation for future scientific exploration. Each module immerses students in science content, encouraging active learning and deeper understanding through real-world applications.Position Summary
The CityLab/Watershed Access Lab Outreach Educator will deliver curriculum modules for CASE outreach programs to a variety of participants. Educators will be responsible for teaching background content, guiding participants through laboratory techniques, and instructing on the proper use of scientific instruments. They are also expected to help maintain a safe, organized, and productive laboratory environment.In addition to on-campus instruction, educators may participate in off-site field trips, delivering the same curriculum in local schools or outdoor environments such as ponds, streams, rivers, gardens, and parks. Outreach Educators will work alongside CASE student instructors, who will assist with class activities.
Educators may also collaborate with CASE administrators and faculty to develop, refine, align, and pilot new curriculum for various CASE initiatives, including the CASE Science Academy, on-campus STEM visits, professional development workshops, and traveling outreach programs.
This is an ideal role for a recently retired teacher or anyone with K-12 teaching experience looking for flexible, part-time work.
Schedule & Hours:
Work is based on outreach demand. Typical shifts are approximately 5 hours on days with scheduled visits. There is no fixed schedule-shifts vary based on school requests. Educators can work as few as one shift per week, with flexibility in choosing availability.

- Deliver instruction and demonstrate scientific equipment to elementary, middle, and high school students participating in CityLab and Watershed Access Lab programs, as well as other CASE events.
- Assist with setup, breakdown, and cleanup of materials for CityLab and Watershed Access Lab activities.
- Support curriculum development, refinement, and alignment with academic standards for CASE programs.
Required Qualifications
- Experience instructing elementary, middle, or high school students
- Strong understanding of topics taught in CityLab (biology, biotechnology) and/or Watershed Access Lab (environmental science, chemistry, physics) outreach programs
- Effective classroom management skills
- Ability to work with students of varied learning abilities
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Reliable and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including PowerPoint and Excel
- Bachelor's degree required
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with gel electrophoresis, spectrophotometer, micropipette, and the scientific method.Work Environment
