Full Job Description

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Equal Opportunity, the primary responsibility of the Civil Rights Investigator is to conduct investigations into reports of harassment, discrimination, and sexual misconduct against faculty, staff, affiliates, and non-affiliates at Boston University pursuant to university policy as well as state and federal law. The Investigator is also engaged in education and prevention efforts to support the EOO mission. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Equal Opportunity, the primary responsibility of the Civil Rights Investigator is to conduct investigations into reports of harassment, discrimination, and sexual misconduct against faculty, staff, affiliates, and non-affiliates at Boston University pursuant to university policy as well as state and federal law. The Investigator is also engaged in education and prevention efforts to support the EOO mission.

Skills

Master's degree in higher education student affairs, social work, conflict resolution, counseling, JD, or a related field with three to five years of relevant professional experience. Working knowledge of Title IX, Title VII, ADA, ADEA, VAWA, FMLA, and other applicable laws, regulations and guidance as they pertain to investigation and analysis of discrimination and harassment complaints. Demonstrated ability to manage caseload of multiple complex investigations simultaneously; strong organization skills, including the ability to manage time and tasks effectively, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Superior oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to write concise, detailed, analytical reports. Strong problem- solving and conflict resolution skills. Ability to act independently or as part of a team, and to exercise sound judgment. Ability to collaborate with multiple departments and colleagues while maintaining appropriate confidentiality. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to remain neutral and objective. Ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential information with discretion and compassion. A high level of person and professional ethics. Conflict resolution/mediation experience preferred.
