Job Title: Director, Financial Crimes Data Science Testing & Controls
The Role
This role will lead the strategic oversight and independent validation of data science models and analytics used in the detection and prevention of financial crimes. This role ensures that advanced learning solutions, including machine learning models and rule-based systems, meet regulatory expectations, internal governance standards, and operational effectiveness benchmarks. The Director will drive a robust testing and control framework across model development, deployment, and monitoring, while partnering with compliance, risk, and technology teams!
The Expertise and Skills You Bring
- Master's or Ph.D. in Data Science, Statistics, Economics or a related quantitative field preferred.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in data science, model validation, testing framework, model risk management, or analytics within financial services, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Deep understanding of financial crime typologies, AML/BSA regulations, new technologies and fraud detection methodologies.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present complex findings to non-technical partners and regulators.
- Excellency in Python, SQL, and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)
- Lead a team of quantitative analysts, model validators, and control specialists focused on testing and validating financial crime detection models
- Develop and execute a comprehensive testing and controls strategy aligned with regulatory expectations (e.g., OCC, FRB, FinCEN) and internal risk frameworks
- Oversee the design and execution of rigorous testing protocols for machine learning and rule-based models, including performance benchmarking, back testing, and scenario analysis
- Ensure models are interpretable, explainable, and compliant with regulatory guidance (e.g. SR 11-7)
- Present findings and recommendations on model performance, enhancement, or augmentation requirements to Financial Crimes Compliance senior leaders

The Financial Crimes Models & Analytics team within Financial Crimes Compliance group is responsible for the design, development and maintenance of the firm's Financial Crimes reporting, intelligence, detection models and optimization. The base salary range for this position is $103,000-$218,000 per year.Placement in the range will vary based on job responsibilities and scope, geographic location, candidate's relevant experience, and other factors.
Base salary is only part of the total compensation package. Depending on the position and eligibility requirements, the offer package may also include bonus or other variable compensation.
