Job Summary
The Director of Security will lead the development and execution of Alkermes’ global security strategy, ensuring the protection of our people, property, and operations. Reporting to the VP of EHSS, Sustainability, and Facilities, this role will oversee security risk management programs across all Alkermes locations and foster a culture of security awareness and integrity.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional risk-based judgment, executive presence, and the ability to make informed, timely decisions. They will drive value-added programs and initiatives in collaboration with key stakeholders at all levels of the organization. This will be based in our Waltham, MA location.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Security Strategy: Develop and implement a long-term security strategy aligned with company goals and an evolving risk landscape.
- Global Security Operations: Oversee and continuously improve security systems, team performance, and vendor practices across multiple locations.
- Risk Management: Establish/ optimize processes for the rapid identification and mitigation of security risks related to facilities, travel, workplace violence, corporate events, and more.
- Policy & Culture: Design and implement policies and training programs to promote security awareness and culture across the organization.
- Incident Response: Lead investigations and ensure effective responses to security incidents.
- Crisis Management: Develop and routinely test crisis management systems to maintain operational readiness for a range of scenarios.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with IT, HR, Legal, Operations, and other key stakeholders to embed security protocols into all areas of the business.
- Performance Metrics: Define, monitor, and report on key performance indicators to measure the effectiveness of the security program and drive continuous improvement.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- 12+ years’ experience in a security related field, incl. 5+ years in a corporate lead role
- Proven strategic leadership, communication, and risk-based decision-making skills
- Experience managing global security operations and teams, including virtual security operations centers (VSOCs), and implementing scalable technical security systems
- Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills across all organizational levels
- Industry experience in biopharma or a similarly regulated environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, business, or a related field (Master’s or MBA preferred)
- Active involvement in professional security associations
- Experience managing budgets, vendors, and outsourced operations
- Strong business acumen and strategic planning capabilities
- Ability to work a weekly office schedule onsite in our Waltham location
