Job Description:
Berklee College of Music is seeking a detail-oriented, tech-savvy, and student-focused Equipment Room Specialist to join our vibrant Academic Technology team. This role plays a key part in supporting Berklee’s mission to empower artists through education that is rooted in creativity, innovation, and collaboration.
About the Role:
Reporting to the Equipment Manager, the Equipment Room Specialist provides high-level technical support to students, faculty, and events, ensuring that equipment—from modular synths to software workstations—is fully functional, up to date, and ready to inspire creativity.
Whether it’s troubleshooting an audio interface, setting up gear for a class, or mentoring student employees, this role is essential in delivering the hands-on, technology-rich learning environment that Berklee is known for. You’ll work closely with faculty, students, and fellow tech professionals in a fast-paced, collaborative setting that’s active up to 16 hours a day, seven days a week.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide in-person, remote, and on-call support for technology labs and technology classrooms.
Maintain inventory and oversee equipment checkouts, installations, and updates.
Assist faculty with course technology needs and support special equipment reservations.
Supervise, train, and support a team of 15 Student Employees.
Research and implement firmware/software updates across a wide range of devices.
Collaborate on testing and documentation for software and hardware configurations.
Keep detailed records of equipment use and technical issues using various digital tools.
Support faculty and students in exploring innovative uses of new music technology.
What You Bring:
Bachelor’s degree in music technology or equivalent professional experience.
Deep experience with audio gear, DAWs (Pro Tools, Logic, Ableton Live, etc.), and Mac systems.
A strong understanding of signal flow, audio recording, modular synthesis, and MIDI.
Comfort with studio environments and professional audio configurations.
Ability to lead, support, and communicate effectively in a diverse, fast-paced environment.
