Alkermes is seeking a talented individual for a summer internship in our Formulation Development Department in Waltham, MA. As a summer intern, the selected candidate will support the ongoing work on the formulation development of the oral solid dosage form. The project focuses on understanding the flow and compression of powder on a lab scale and manufacturing scale equipment. The candidate should have experience working on pharmaceutical equipment and should have in-depth knowledge of solid mechanics and the current state-of-the-art in this field. The program provides candidates with hands-on experience in various pharmaceutical unit operations and manufacturing equipment while also offering the opportunity to gain a fundamental understanding of key aspects of small molecule pharmaceutical formulation development. Additionally, there will be opportunities to learn and apply statistical analysis and design of experiments.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Bio-Medical Engineering, Pharmaceutics, or a related discipline.
• Minimum GPA 3.2
• Background in solid mechanics
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience with good laboratory practices
• Highly motivated and detail-oriented
• Ability to apply scientific principles to design, execute, and interpret experiments.
• Team player with good interpersonal skills
• Excellent written and oral communication
• Experience with pharmaceutical manufacturing processes
• Proficiency in MATLAB/Python/JMP
• Proficiency with electronic notebook
• Experience working in a pharmaceutical R&D/manufacturing setting
WORKING CONDITIONS
This is a lab-based job position, and the candidate is expected to work full-time in lab settings.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The candidate should be able to work in the lab for at least four hours a day, which may involve lifting up to ten pounds.
