About the Role
POSITION
We are seeking a candidate for a Lead Software Engineer to join our Enterprise Platform team within Investment Technology. We are seeking a strategic and technically skilled Lead AI Developer to drive the development, governance, and adoption of AI tools across Wellington. This role will be instrumental in managing the rollout of OpenAI-based solutions and Microsoft Copilot, with a strong emphasis on security, compliance, and responsible AI use. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with OpenAI APIs, Microsoft Copilot, , Amazon Bedrock, and will serve as a bridge between engineering, information security, and business stakeholders—especially within the investor community.
RESPONSIBILITIES
AI Tool Strategy & Governance
Define and maintain standards for when to use Copilot vs. OpenAI vs. other AI tools.
Collaborate with the AI Policy and Risk team to ensure alignment with firmwide AI governance
Rollout & Adoption
Lead the firmwide deployment of ChatGPT and Copilot, including training, enablement, and support
Partner with investor teams to tailor AI solutions to their workflows and ensure adoption.
Development & Integration
Build and maintain custom AI agents using Azure OpenAI, Copilot Studio, and AWS AI services
Support the O365 Copilot rollout, including integration with Microsoft Teams, Outlook, and SharePoint
Security & Risk Management
Stay current on AI-related risks, including data leakage, hallucinations, and model drift.
Work closely with InfoSec and Legal to ensure all AI deployments meet compliance standards
Innovation & Thought Leadership
Monitor and evaluate emerging AI capabilities and product enhancements from Microsoft, OpenAI, and Amazon Bedrock.
Contribute to internal knowledge sharing and represent the team in AI working groups and forums.
QUALIFICATIONS
Strong understanding of information security principles and AI governance.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
5+ years of experience in software development, with 2+ years in AI/ML or NLP.
Proficiency with OpenAI APIs, Azure OpenAI, and Copilot Studio.
Azure and SSO Administration experience is a nice to have.
Familiarity with AWS AI/ML services (e.g., SageMaker, Bedrock, Comprehend).
Experience with Harmonic AI or Prompt AI would be a nice to have.
Must be able to work in Boston or Needham – 4 days a week onsite.
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, engineering, math, or related field, or equivalent experience

Our approach to compensation considers all aspects of total compensation; all employees are eligible to receive salary, variable compensation, and benefits. The base salary range for this position is:
USD 80,000 - 180,000This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered when making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets; role; skills and experience; certifications; and education. This range is an estimate, and further details on salary and total compensation aspects will be shared with candidates during the recruitment process.
Base salary is only one component of Wellington’s total compensation approach. Other rewards may include a discretionary Corporate Bonus and/ or Incentives, if eligible.
