The Tsai Performance Center is a 515-seat theatre managed by Events & Conferences, a division of Auxiliary Services. In addition to Tsai, Events & Conferences is responsible for the coordination of University-wide events, room scheduling of University events, management of the summer conference operations, and the coordination of non-University conferences and events throughout the year. We are seeking applicants for a Production Specialist at the Tsai Performance Center. Reporting to the Production Manager, this position serves as a lead theater technician, prepares and executes Tsai events, assists with student staff training and supervision, and handles the daily on-site operations of the theater. Responsibilities include:
- Providing on-site support of day-to-day activities, rehearsals, classes, and events in the Tsai Performance Center.
- Serving as the main contact to university groups and external clients to ensure technical and logistic needs of their events are covered. Conducting site visits and media tests.
- Acting as a lighting and sound technician alongside other professionals and student support staff.
- Assisting in the training and daily supervision of student support staff so they can safely operate in-house equipment.
- Serving as liaison to BU School of Music production staff to ensure their setup needs for rehearsal classes and performances are covered. Negotiating instrument deliveries and pickups. Consult on best practices and setups and maintain good communication throughout.
- Performing routine checks on equipment and assisting in equipment maintenance.
- Providing quality customer service and client support to those producing and those attending Tsai events. Coordinate front-of-house needs for events.
Skills
- Bachelor's Degree and three to five years of relevant experience, with a focus on technical theatre operations, customer service, and/or event production.
- Demonstrated expertise as a skilled technician in lighting, sound, and media.
- Ability and willingness to work a varied work schedule that regularly includes evenings and weekends.
- Passion for client & audience services and the ability to remain calm and positive under pressure while effectively and diplomatically communicating with a variety of constituencies.
- Self-starter with the ability to be proactive, motivate others to do their best work, and follow through on projects independently. •Experience with Microsoft Office, QLab, Lightwright, Vectorworks, ETC lighting consoles, Yamaha digital mixing consoles, and Dante networking preferred.
