SUMMARY Under direction of the department chief, nurse leader or designee, the nurse's responsibilities include assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care for a complex patient population. The infusion nurse duties include but are not limited to: administering chemotherapy, administering other specialty infusion therapy, and providing patient education. Provides telephone triage and clinical advice appropriately; coordinates the followup care of patients and practice management support. Proficiency will be needed for the following; IV placement, preparation and administration of IV medication, IM injections. The role requires clinical expertise, critical thinking, collaborative practice, excellent communication skills and an understanding of the principles and practices of clinical research
EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
- Graduate of a state approved school of nursing, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Possess a current license to practice professional nursing in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required based on specialty.
- Biotherapy certification and OCN preferred, but not required
EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in medical/surgical or ambulatory nursing required exceptions in consultation
with VP of Nursing.
Oncology experience preferred.
Peripheral IV and Port Access experience preferred.
Experience with an electronic medical records system, EPIC experienced preferred
SKILLS
Must exhibit strong critical thinking, problem solving, interpersonal and good patient interviewing skills. Highly motivated and self-directed. Ability to interpret clinical information, assess the implication of treatment and develop and implement a plan of care. Demonstrated ability to prioritize, multitask, and work in a rapidly changing environment with multiple demands. Up to date with current standard of nursing care in Specialty. Demonstrated excellence in practice, documentation and utilization. Maintain high patient satisfaction. Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Basic computer skills.
