General Summary:
The General Ledger Senior Accountant II conducts a range of straightforward accounting activities related to the recording, maintenance and analysis of journal entries and the general ledger under general guidance from accounting and finance managers.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with U.S. functional finance contacts to analyze and succinctly summarize monthly and quarterly fluctuations in key business accruals in the areas including but not limited to, clinical accruals, R&D accruals, manufacturing, and supply chain accruals.
- Prepare hedging and investment analyses and reporting deliverables
- Completion of month end and year end close journals for Vertex's entities as needed.
- Assists in the completion of balance sheet control account reconciliations at month-end in accordance with SOX 404 compliance requirements and pro-active investigation of reconciling items on the reconciliation. Assists in the review of monthly and quarterly account analyses and reconciliations for a number of general ledger accounts across Vertex's various entities.
- Proactively provide observations/recommendations to all levels of management in order to gain efficiencies in the monthly GL Close process. Assist in making necessary changes to gain efficiencies identified.
- Collaborates with the Accounting and Finance team to support overall department goals and objectives.
- Ensure that internal policies and SOX procedures are adhered to. Coordinates SOX documentation and testing with the internal audit team. Ensure that internal policies and SOX procedures are adhered to.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong knowledge of accounting (US GAAP, IFRS) and finance processes in a complex international business
- Advanced knowledge of Excel with experience of manipulating large data sets and modelling skills
- Strong analytical skills and experience of forecasting, budgeting and management reporting
- Experience in handling month-end and year-end close cycle processes, balance sheet reconciliations, and multi-currencies accounting with minimal supervision
- Good interpersonal and communication skills and ability to present technical financial information to management and non-technical audiences
- Developed financial systems proficiency and experience working with Oracle R12, Oracle Project Accounting, OBIEE, HFM and/or SMART view (Essbase data sources) or demonstrated experience working with data reporting / mining tools
- Knowledge of accounting operations in an international shared services environment
- Knowledge of SOX compliance requirements
- Experience in identifying and suggesting areas for process improvement
- Achievement of professional accounting designation/certification in applicable country (e.g., ACCA, ACA, CIMA, CPA) strongly preferred.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree with a major in Accounting or Finance
- Experience in a corporate accounting environment
- Requires 3-5 years of progressive, relevant finance and accounting experience.
- Big 4 experience and pharmaceuticals industry experience are strongly preferred.
Pay Range:
$84,000 - $126,000Disclosure Statement:
The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
