Established in 2011 and renamed in 2015, the mission of the Martin Richard Institute for Social Justice (MRISJ) at Bridgewater State University is to build knowledge about social justice, to develop skills for advancing social justice through individual and collective action, and to serve as a catalyst for actualizing Bridgewater State University's commitment to social justice.The MRISJ team is passionate about building and sustaining an inclusive and equitable working and learning environments for all students, staff, and faculty. Position Summary
The Program Manager is a valuable member of the MRISJ team who will develop, coordinate, and evaluate high-quality programs and events to promote student learning and leadership with campus and community partners. The Program Manager will hire, manage, advise and evaluate undergraduate student employees, and develop and coordinate a wide range of service, civic, and student leadership opportunities on campus and in the community.Standard schedule: Monday - Friday, 9:00 - 5:00 (Some evenings and weekend hours are required)
Essential Duties
1. Plan, organize, lead, and evaluate BSU's Annual Days of Service (including MLK Day of Service, 9/11 National Day of Service & Remembrance, and Earth Day), Local Service Projects, and other service programs and donation drives. Ensure that all participants receive a high-quality, justice-oriented orientation and reflection for each community-based service program. Implement MRISJ's procedures for program development and planning and program assessment, evaluation and tracking.2. Lead one of the MRISJ's signature student leadership programs (such as Justice Fellows, MRISJ Ambassadors, Voting and Civic Action Ambassadors, and/or Alternative Break), including hiring training, and supervising students, curriculum development, student and host site recruitment, program evaluation, and partner relationship management.3. Represent and share information about the MRISJ at campus programs, events, and presentations, including but not limited to Admissions information sessions, Homecoming, September welcome events, Crimson Orientation, student leadership workshops, student organizations, community meetings and conferences, and classroom presentations for undergraduate and graduate students. Create a welcoming environment for all students, faculty, staff, alumni, and visitors and inform them of MRISJ and campus resources and opportunities for involvement.4. Maintain divisional collaborations with campus partners and departments such as the Career Services and Internship Programs, Center for Student Engagement, Community Health & Prevention, Lewis and Gaines Center for Inclusion and Equity (LGCIE), LGBT Pride Center, Student Accessibility Services, and others to organize social justice, racial justice, service, and civic engagement events.5. Assist the MRISJ Marketing Coordinator to develop marketing and advertising plans to encourage participation in assigned program opportunities, to maintain the visibility of the MRISJ, and engage a diverse community of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and local residents.6. Serve as a resource for student-initiated project requests to advise them in the development of service, civic and social justice projects.7. Develop and enhance mutually beneficial partnerships with local and regional community agencies and organizations through regular communication and site visits.8. Represent the MRISJ through committee work, departmental and divisional tasks, campus and community relations, and assigned projects.9. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Programs.10. Transport participants to community locations using a 15-passenger van when required.
11. Weekend and evening commitments, as well as periodic (mainly local) travel, are required of this position.
Required Qualifications
1. Two years professional work experience.2. Bachelor's degree (or commensurate experience) relevant to the position responsibilities.4. Experience using and basic levels of proficiency with a wide range of technology and software platforms, including the Microsoft suite (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams), and willingness to learn and continuously improve skills on a variety of software programs used by the MRISJ.5. Ability to communicate appropriately and professionally, both verbally and in writing, with diverse groups of students, faculty, staff, and community partners.6. Ability to work nimbly and creatively, and to be highly organized and able to multi-task in support of regular and evolving processes.7. Demonstrated leadership, initiative, and judgment to anticipate multiple programmatic scenarios and address them as they arise.8. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.9. Demonstrated passion for social justice and civic engagement along with a steadfast commitment to creating an environment of diversity, equity, and inclusion.10. Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.11. Ability to participate with and foster a strong sense of teamwork, mutual support, and transparency.12. Valid Driver's license.Work Environment
