Summer Science Academy Program Nurse (FY25/FY26 - 380191)

Department Summary

The Summer Science Academy offers several one-week science classes for students in grades 7-9 and 10-12. This unique program allows students to work as scientists and is designed to inspire students about science while providing them with the foundations necessary for further scientific exploration. Summer Science Academy students are immersed in science courses and conduct hands-on investigations in their class. In addition, the class will focus on the importance of science communication. Classes run from July 7-11, 2025 and July 14-18, 2025 from 8:30AM to 2:30PM.

Position Summary

| CASE is looking for a qualified individual to act as the Summer Science Academy (SSA) Nurse to serve both roles below:

1. The SSA Nurse will review medical records prior to the start of the program for accuracy and up-to-date vaccination records and address any concerns with parents and CASE administrators. The maximum number of hours for medical review is 8 hours per class. Maximum total hours for document review is 32 hours if all 4 classes are offered. Medical review will start at or around May 15 and continue until program start with flexible hours.

2. The Nurse will be required to be on call during each of the 5-day programs (July 7-11, 2025 and July 14-18, 2025 from 8:30AM to 2:30PM) for medical related questions and issues as well as be available to come to campus if needed to administer necessary medication during the program.

Essential Duties

1. Reviewing student medical paperwork
2. Contacting parents/guardians regarding any medical issues as needed.
3. Keeping log of medication and sick calls and providing health supervisor with documentation of administration of medication, first aid, etc.
4. Administering medication to participants who have doctor written orders and parental authorization to receive medication
5. Advising the health supervisor on medical issues
6. Assuring proper secure storage of medication including documented receipt/disposal of medications

Required Qualifications

1. Massachusetts License as a Licensed Practical Nurse, Registered Nurse or Nurse Practitioner
2. Understanding of vaccination requirements for middle school and high school participants

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with middle and/or high school students

$50/contact hour and $50/day for being on call
