Job Summary

The Supervisor of Construction Logistics will serve as Operations main contact with contractors working on or near the Rail Operations Right of Way.  The Supervisor will assist with management of construction and maintenance activities impacting the MBTA ROW including ensuring safe work sites, monitoring ongoing construction activities, planning and executing diversions and track outages, and assisting with ongoing maintenance and Capital project activities. The Construction Logistics Supervisor will assist with renovation projects that impact Rail Operations service delivery ensuring projects and maintenance progresses safely, efficiently and on schedule.



Duties & Responsibilities

    • Will report to the Superintendent of Construction Logistics, and work closely with Rail Operations and Maintenance supervisory personnel and contractor/sub-contractors to ensure that all mitigation measures necessary are put into place to ensure the safety of customers and employees.
    • Supervise all work site setups to ensure they are carried out in accordance with the Right-of-Way policy.
    • Conduct Toolbox safety briefings with employees, contractors, and subcontractors. 
    • Develop special orders required during diversions in service, temporary track outage, or station closures.
    • Coordinate all diversions.
    • Perform work site hazard assessments for contractors
    • Monitor activities of contractors/sub-contractors and Authority maintenance staff to assist in complying with Operations Special Orders, rules, and standard operating procedures.
    • Supervise third rail/catenary power energization and de-energization.
    • Act as the primary contact with the Operations Control Center/Dispatcher to keep them appraised for maintenance and diversion activities.
    • Assist Construction Project Managers, District Directors (ail), District Superintendents (Rail), and Maintenance Supervisors in staying within the pre-established capital budget for force account. Work primarily on the Rail Operations Lines and Maintenance Divisions 
    • Ensure budgetary goals are met and that all work is performed in a timely and cost-effective manner.
    • Drive a company or personal vehicle to visit/inspect work sites and to assist in emergencies and/or events as needed.
    • Respond to each inquiry, whether from a customer, vendor, or co-worker courteously and professionally.
    • Respond directly or through others, to emergencies twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week during installation.
    • Assist in the management of a workforce by ensuring the fair and consistent application and strict adherence to the rules, regulations, collective bargaining agreement (if applicable) and policies of the Authority including the EEO, Anti- Discrimination and Anti-Harassment and Anti-Retaliation policies.
    • Uphold the rights and interests of the Authority while building and maintaining an effective relationship with employees.
    • Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications

  • A High School Diploma or GED
  • Five (5) years of experience in Rail Operations (Heavy/Light Rail Transportation, Heavy/Light Rail Dispatcher, or Heavy/Light Rail Instructor) or five (5) years' experience in Power, Signals or Track Maintenance
  • Two (2) years of experience in Rail transportation field operations working as a Spare/Inspector, Spare/Chief Inspector, Train/Light Rail Starter, Light/Heavy Rail Dispatcher, Yard Master or Supervisor of Transportation or two (2) years of experience in Power, Signals and Track supervisory functions (Foreman, Supervisor, Superintendent)
  • Effective organizational, multi-tasking and time management skills.
  • The ability to use Word, Excel, database, PeopleSoft, or Main Frame applications. 
  • Have the ability to supervise and work effectively with a diverse workforce.
  • Must be aware of the MBTA Safety Plan and how this role relates to the Safety Plan.

  • Have a satisfactory work record for the two (2) years immediately prior to the closing date of this posting (unless if current student or recent graduate), including overall employment, job performance, discipline, and safety records (infractions and/or offenses occurring after the closing of the posting and before the filling of a vacancy may preclude a candidate from consideration for selection).
  • Ability to pass a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check, comprehensive background screening, and / or medical Clinic screening, potentially including a physical examination and drug and alcohol screenings.
  • Ability to work all shifts and / or locations assigned, directed, or necessary for this position, including (for some transit / operations roles) up to twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week as necessary to accommodate severe weather conditions, emergencies, or any other circumstances that may potentially impact service or the safety of service.
  • Intern / co-op staff must be enrolled full or part-time in an accredited educational program and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 for the entire duration of the internship / co-op. Additionally, interns / co-ops must have valid work authorization prior to application to be considered for employment.
