We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Associate Director, End to End Supply Chain Planning Solutions, to join our team and drive our digital transformation initiatives.

The Associate Director, End to End Supply Chain Planning Solutions is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and management of End to End Supply Chain Planning solutions and digital platforms that support the supply of all Vertex medicines during clinical trials and in all commercial supply across all modalities, from small molecules cell and gene therapy medicines. This work is a critical part of our supply chain solutions to ensure that fast, effective and compliant End to End Supply Chain Planning of all clinical and commercial supply occurs with speed, efficiency and ensuring that no patient is left behind. This role is vital to our patient-facing commitment to ensuring no stock-outs or missed supplies.

This role ensures that software and data technology systems align with global regulatory requirements, global financial requirements and global quality requirements and ensures alignment with technology and operational models across all these domains. The Associate Director partners across global, US and international supply chain, clinical and commercial supply chain, IT, data science, quality, finance and regulatory affairs to enhance digital capabilities, drive automation, and improve operational efficiency in supply chain planning processes.

Reporting Line

The Associate Director, End to End Supply Chain Planning Solutions reports directly to the Director, Supply Chain Planning Solutions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Vision and Strategy

  • Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of End to End Supply Chain Planning systems to support the clinical and commercial supply of all Vertex medicines.
  • Oversee the integration of End to End Supply Chain Planning digital solutions that manage data flows across experiment capture through to analytical insight.
  • Couple mastery of the marketplace of commercial products with innovation to where creative solutions can drive Vertex’s needs forward.

Operational Execution

  • Collaborate with global, US and international supply chain, clinical and commercial supply chain, IT, data science, quality, finance and regulatory affairs to enhance digital capabilities, drive automation, and improve operational efficiency in supply chain planning processes.
  • Focus on data integrity, security, and accessibility for agility in planning and real-time reporting.
  • Drive process automation and digital transformation initiatives to improve efficiency in End to End Supply Chain Planning.
  • Monitor emerging technologies and regulatory trends to enhance system capabilities and maintain compliance with evolving global standards.
  • Provide technical leadership and support for troubleshooting system issues and optimizing system performance.

Leadership

  • Execute strategic plans for assigned projects or functions, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Oversee the execution of projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
  • Lead and mentor a team of professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and high performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business needs and ensure successful project delivery.
  • Monitor and report on project performance using key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a supply chain or logistics discipline, computer science, IT or relevant equivalent; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in supply chain technology, ideally within the pharmaceutical industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of planning, forecasting and reporting technology, ideally with experience in technology within the pharmaceutical industry, including how medicine modalities impact supply chain planning.
  • Proficiency in digital tools and technologies, with a strong understanding of digital trends and best practices.
  • Expertise in Kinaxis supply chain planning software (RapidResponse/Maestro). Experience with RPA and Ai solutions is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and initiatives that require collaboration across multiple functional areas.
  • Experience in pharmaceuticals and life sciences is a plus.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Experience in successfully developing and implementing technology strategy, preferably within a complex organization.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills, with demonstrated success in managing diverse teams and fostering high engagement.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and strategic thinking abilities, with a focus on driving innovation and operational excellence.
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to produce strategic documents, present ideas and solutions to technical and non-technical audiences, and all levels of the organization.
  • A strong commitment to compliance and integrity in systems, processes, and actions, with a deep understanding of the biotech regulatory environment.

Co-Location Requirement:

  • This is a hybrid role based in Boston, Massachusetts. The Flex @ Vertex Policy requires 3 days a week onsite (of your choice).

Other Requirements

  • Willingness to travel up to 10% to support business objectives.
  • Experience with enabling advanced technologies, such as AI and machine learning, through data engineering strategies is highly desirable.

Pay Range:

$158,800 - $238,100

Disclosure Statement:

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
