As a key member of the Research & Development (R&D) team, the Product Owner will be responsible for defining and prioritizing product requirements, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring that software solutions align with customer needs, regulatory requirements, and business objectives.

This role requires a deep understanding of Agile product management, software development processes, and R&D-driven innovation. The ideal candidate will serve as the bridge between stakeholders, engineering teams, and business leaders to deliver high-impact software products that support scientific research and laboratory workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Define and manage the product backlog for new product introduction and sustaining initiatives, ensuring that features are well-defined, prioritized, and aligned with the overall product vision and strategy.
  • Collaborate with scientists, engineers, UX designers, and business stakeholders to translate high-level requirements into actionable user stories and acceptance criteria and provide demonstrations of completed work for feedback and alignment.
  • Work closely with Agile development teams to guide sprint planning, backlog grooming, and ensure timely delivery of high-quality software solutions.
  • Work with business stakeholders to conduct market research, competitor analysis, and customer interviews to understand industry trends, scientific challenges, and user pain points.
  • Partner with R&D teams to explore emerging technologies, algorithms, and data analytics that can enhance software capabilities.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and quality standards relevant to software products in life sciences and diagnostics (e.g., ISO 13485, FDA 21 CFR Part 11).
  • Act as the primary liaison between software engineering, marketing, and commercial teams to align product roadmaps with business objectives.
  • Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure product success and user adoption after product releases.
  • Champion a customer-centric mindset and advocate for usability, scalability, and performance improvements.
  • Drive continuous improvement by gathering feedback from internal teams and end-users, iterating on product design and functionality.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Bioinformatics, Life Sciences, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Product Owner, Product Manager, or a related role in software development, scientific computing, or with software products supporting inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES) technology.
  • Ability to interpret complex scientific workflows and translate them into user-friendly software features.
  • Experience with JIRA, Confluence, or similar Agile tools including the ability to use these tools to report out on team progress toward goals on a regular cadence.
  • Experience with Balsamiq or similar wireframe tools or experience with Figma or similar prototyping tools.
  • Strong understanding of Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and hands-on experience managing software development backlogs.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • User experience with Inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES) technology; working with scientific or laboratory software applications with this technology (e.g., LIMS, ELN, data analysis tools).
  • Previous experience working in a cross-functional R&D environment with researchers and scientists.
  • Technical knowledge of software architectures, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), and DevOps practices.
  • Understanding of compliance requirements for regulated software (ISO, FDA, HIPAA, GDPR).

The annualcompensation range for this full-time position is $105,000 to $135,000. The final base pay offered to the successful candidate will be determined by factors including internal equity, work location, as well as individual qualifications, such as job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
