The Vertex Internship Program offers students the opportunity to learn about the pharmaceutical industry from a hands-on perspective. Job Summary:
The Formulation Development group is focused on bringing molecules to clinic that have transformative potential for patients. The intern will work closely with other formulation and pharmaceutical scientists to develop innovative solubility experimental methods to characterize formulations of early-stage assets. The project aim is evaluate tools and techniques to enhance current workflows and enable selection of best formulations to move forward in development.
The successful intern candidate will be self-motivated and independent with strong communication skills. The candidate will design and execute experiments, analyze data and present findings to the manager and other stakeholders. The internship will also afford the opportunity to collaborate with other scientists and learn about early-stage drug development process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review scientific literature
- Experimental/lab techniques: HPLC, DLS, syringe pump
- Ability to learn new software; use Microsoft suite (PowerPoint, Excel) to communicate findings
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively, where appropriate
- Record and analyze data, write summary reports & present findings in team and department meetings
- Comply with all relevant training and safety procedures in an ethical manner
Qualifications:
- Must be enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate program in an engineering/science field
- Strong interest in drug development process
- Have previous hands-on laboratory experience
- Detail oriented and organized
- Ability to work independently and follow established procedures
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to think critically
- Experience using HPLC is a plus
- Permanent legal authorization to work in the United States
- Candidate must be enrolled in an advanced degree program if graduating before May 2025
- Candidate must be available to work full-time, 40 hours per week from May - August 2025
