General Summary:

The Associate Director, Clinical Budget Management oversees the Clinical Budget Analyst team in Global Clinical Operations. This role leads the group responsible for broader financial understanding or insight into defined clinical projects, and will have direct responsibility for the financial health of clinical studies. This role liaises between Clinical Operations, Outsourcing and Finance, providing oversight support for invoicing and overall study budgets, and provides valuable analysis and metrics to help improve the financial management of clinical studies. This role also manages the Global Spend Transparency reporting and data for the broader GMDA team at Vertex.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Manages and oversees activities of the Clinical Budget analyst team
• Develops of metrics and reporting on financial health of study, program or vendor
• Creates routine, consistent and standardized approach to reconciliations and defines escalation paths and reporting to JOC (as applicable) for Tier 1 and 2 vendors
• Serves as the Identification and Solution Lead to key process issues that impact financial wellness
• Manages the biannual Sub-Certification review for Global Spend Transparency
• Supports preparation for the biannual Attestations for Global Spend Transparency
• Trains new vendors on Alanda reporting system and the correct way to identify and report spend
• Completes pre-NDA financial reconciliations for Financial Disclosure forms
• Presents and reviews data with COSLs, COPLs, and other business owners
• Manages receipt and collection of supporting documentation and resolution of Disputes
• As a people manager within the organization, may have financial accountabilities and human resource responsibilities for assigned staff.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Proven ability to use multiple databases and large datasets (operations, outsourcing, procurement, fair market values)
• Strong MS Excel skills with background in modelling / forecasting
• Experience reviewing vendor budgets to identify cost drivers
• Exposure to accounts payable processes/systems including purchase orders and invoices
• Effective meetings management skills; focused on action items and meeting deliverables
• Ability to motivate and teach others
• Clinical or CRO background with experience in an outsourcing model
• Critical thinking and detail oriented skills
• Excellent communication skills both in person and in writing to persuade others to take action

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Finance or Business discipline
• Typically requires 8 years of work experience with clinical trial budgets, clinical trials or global spend transparency and 2 years of supervisory/management experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience

This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
