Reporting to the State Director, with a dotted line to the Northeast Division Finance Director, and as part of the Massachusetts Leadership Team, the Finance Director will support the Massachusetts Business Unit in a wide range of financial services, including financial management, reporting and analysis, and general financial data maintenance. They will analyze information to achieve results, solve complex problems, and serve as a strategic partner in advising how to best invest our resources towards our conservation objectives and collaborate with the Development team to manage funding priorities. They work closely with the State Director, the Chapter’s Leadership Team, and program managers to develop, monitor, manage and report on the $10.2m annual operating budget, capital projects and multi-year sustainability models. They manage the full budget life cycle of the Business Unit which includes leading the development of the annual budget, forecasting future financials, and leading efficient and clean year-end closing.
The Finance Manager is also responsible for financial compliance with TNC policies and procedures, legal standards, and regulatory requirements by reviewing and monitoring accuracy of financial documents and entering transactions in the system as needed. They drive corrective measures and consistency with corporate policies. Occasional travel is required.
Duties are highly confidential and require broad and comprehensive knowledge of Conservancy’s policies. This position works closely with Finance, Accounting, Grants, and Operations staff in other chapters, as well as within the Conservancy's divisional and global offices.
This is a full time, hybrid position. Ideal location is in Massachusetts (with regular, as-needed travel to the Boston office) though remote candidates, with regular travel to Massachusetts, may be considered.

Distributes and reviews finance performance reports with budget managers on a monthly basis to ensure that we are tracking to meet goals, and develop additional analysis as needed.
Applies advanced understanding of TNC finance and Massachusetts strategy to multiple situations to conduct analysis and evaluate results.
Develops the annual forecasting & budgeting process.
Presents financial information to the Board of Trustees as needed.
Maintain financial data, including journal entries, adjustments, and cash receipting entries as needed.
Prepares executive level financial presentations utilized by senior management,
Prepares financial models; provides ad-hoc financial analysis.
Participates in driving solutions to key analytical, strategic and business challenges
Ensure TNC policies and procedures and financial standards requirements are met.
Ensure compliance with donor intent. Coordinate closely with fundraising staff to meet the need for high-level accounting analyses and provide input on campaign tracking mechanisms, fundraising proposals, and strategy. Partner with Development staff to coordinate donor financial reporting and management of private awards.
With the Director of Operations & Culture, oversee chapter accounts payable process and approve payables. Work with Operations Coordinator to allocate expenses and ensure timely payments.
Oversee chapter contractual agreements and public awards to ensure compliance.
Provide orientation and training in budgeting, accounting policies and procedures, grants administration, and financial analysis. Act as a resource to staff on financial issues.
May supervise one or more administrative or professional staff.
What You’ll Bring:
Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration and 5 years' related experience or equivalent combination.
Experience with accounting principles, practices and regulations.
Experience recruiting, supervising and developing staff.
Experience with GAAP.
Salary Information:
The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $100,500 - $133,000. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
