Head of Revenue and Parterships

Boston, MA
Full-Time

Job Description

Head of Revenue & Partnerships
Boston While Black | National (Boston presence required for events)

A Note From Our Founder
Boston While Black didn't start with a business plan.
It started with 15 years of working to build the city I wanted to live in. I moved here from Spelman to Harvard and spent years doing it the ways I knew how: leading my college alumnae chapter, volunteering on political campaigns, planning events, and running a dinner series. What started as a personal problem — I couldn't find my community — turned out to be a structural one. Boston had the people. It didn't have the infrastructure to connect them.
Boston While Black was the thing that finally gave all of that a name.
Over the last six years, we've generated more than $5 million in cumulative revenue, welcomed more than 100,000 attendees, and built one of the most trusted brands serving Black professionals in Greater Boston.
Now we're at an inflection point. For years, many partners came to us through workforce, talent, and diversity initiatives. Those relationships remain important, but the opportunity has grown beyond that. We're building infrastructure for belonging: a trusted platform that helps people connect with community, opportunity, culture, and place — and organizations increasingly recognize it as worth investing in.
The person in this role won't simply sell partnerships. They'll help build the commercial engine behind a category-defining company. That's why I'm making this hire.
I'm looking for someone who can help build the next chapter alongside me: someone who sees opportunity where others see limitations, can turn relationships into long-term partnerships, and wants to help build a revenue engine that can grow far beyond its founder.
If that challenge excites you, I'd love to hear from you.

Founder & CEO, Boston While Black

About Boston While Black
Boston While Black is a membership platform and cultural community built for Black professionals, creatives, entrepreneurs, and leaders in Boston and beyond.
We build infrastructure for belonging: flagship events, digital engagement, curated experiences, and partner activations that connect people to one another and to the city where they're building their lives. What started in Boston has become a model for what trusted Black community infrastructure can look like across cities.
Today, we have 50,000+ followers across platforms, 4,000+ lifetime members, 20,000+ annual event attendees, and $5M in cumulative revenue. Along the way, we've intentionally reinvested in local Black-owned businesses, creators, vendors, and community leaders.
Our partners don't just sponsor events. They gain access to an audience, a network, and a trusted brand environment that creates lasting commercial value.
Before you read another word, spend five minutes at bostonwhileblack.com. Then visit yesthereareblackpeople.com. The energy in those rooms isn't manufactured. It's what years of showing up for a community looks like — and it's what you'd be helping to scale.

About The Role
This is a player-coach individual contributor role with a direct line to the founder and a clear path toward building and leading the revenue function as the company grows. There are no direct reports on day one.
You will own the revenue function end-to-end: sourcing, closing, renewing, and expanding revenue across Boston While Black's commercial portfolio.
Partnerships and event sponsorships are the primary revenue drivers today and will be your primary focus from day one. With deal sizes typically ranging from $5,000 to $150,000+, you will be responsible for building pipeline, closing new business, renewing and expanding existing strategic partnerships, and growing sponsorship revenue across BWB's flagship events and programming.
Simultaneously, this role is broader than sponsorship sales. You will help shape how Boston While Black generates revenue in the future: strengthening pricing and packaging strategy, developing partnerships that drive membership growth, evaluating new revenue streams, and helping define the commercial model that supports expansion beyond Boston.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys both building and selling: someone who can close a sponsorship, deepen a strategic relationship, spot a larger opportunity behind it, and turn that insight into a repeatable revenue strategy.
At its core, this role is about building the commercial engine behind a trusted community platform — scaling revenue while preserving the relationships, trust, and credibility that made the platform valuable in the first place.

Why This Role Matters
Boston While Black has spent nearly six years building something that's difficult to create and impossible to shortcut: trust.
Through our events, membership platform, partnerships, and community presence, we've built one of the strongest relationships with Black professionals in Greater Boston. That trust is why people show up, stay engaged, and continue to open doors for us.
BWB gives partners something rare: meaningful access to a highly engaged and culturally influential community. That's not something you can manufacture, buy, or replicate with a marketing campaign.
The right person for this role understands how to translate that trust into revenue — building partnerships with organizations seeking more than logo placement and helping them create authentic, lasting connections with the communities they want to reach.

What Success Looks Like

  • A healthy, self-generated revenue pipeline that doesn't depend on the founder to open every door
  • Strong renewal and expansion from existing partners
  • New revenue opportunities identified and in development beyond core partnerships and sponsorships
  • A scalable revenue function that can support future team members, new markets, and expansion opportunities

This Probably Isn't the Right Fit If...
This role requires a builder's mindset.
If you only thrive in a fully built environment with established processes, a large support team, and a clear playbook to follow, this probably isn't the right role. BWB is a growth-stage company, and while the foundation is strong, much of what this role requires is creating things that don't yet exist. That's exciting for the right person and exhausting for the wrong one.
It's also probably not the right fit if you're looking for a role where you can hand off the relationship work once a deal is signed. This is a hands-on, player-coach position, and staying close to partners after the close is part of what makes it work.
So if Boston feels like a market you'd sell into rather than a community you'd show up for, this isn't the role for you. The community is the product, and being present in it matters.
The right person will see those realities as part of the opportunity, not a reason to walk away.

What You Will Own

  • Build and manage a structured revenue pipeline from prospecting through close, renewal, and account expansion
  • Lead event sponsorship strategy and sales: structuring tiered packages, pricing activations, and securing multi-event and multi-year commitments
  • Source and close strategic partnerships, including city, institutional, expansion, and other long-term ecosystem opportunities
  • Serve as the founder's commercial counterpart on high-value relationships, strategic opportunities, and the evolution of BWB's revenue model
  • Develop partnership packages, pricing strategies, and business cases that translate BWB's audience, trust, and influence into measurable value for partners
  • Build and document the systems, processes, and CRM infrastructure that make the revenue function repeatable and scalable, working closely with the CFO on pipeline visibility, forecasting, and revenue reporting
  • Identify, test, and develop new revenue opportunities beyond partnerships and sponsorships
  • Work closely with marketing, membership, and finance to ensure revenue strategies and customer journeys reinforce one another across the business
  • Represent BWB with partners, sponsors, and community stakeholders in Boston and beyond

Growth Path
This role is the foundation of Boston While Black's revenue function.
The person who succeeds in this role will have the opportunity to help build the revenue team, shape the organization's commercial strategy, and take on increasing leadership responsibilities as the company grows.
As Boston While Black expands into new cities and new revenue streams, we expect this role to evolve alongside it.

What We Are Looking For

  • 10+ years of experience in business development, partnerships, or a revenue-generating sales role
  • A track record of carrying a number, building and systematizing pipeline in founder-led environments, and closing enterprise partnerships, sponsorships, or deals in the $50,000 to $100,000+ range
  • Experience owning the full revenue cycle: from prospecting and closing to renewal, expansion, and long-term relationship management
  • Cultural fluency and a genuine understanding of why the Black community is a serious commercial and relationship opportunity, not a trend or a checkbox
  • Experience structuring and selling event sponsorships, including tiered packages and multi-year commitments
  • Strong commercial instincts and the ability to sell a business case, not just a story
  • Experience working with brands, founders, or organizations where the value is access, audience, or cultural credibility, not just a product or service
  • Comfort working directly with a founder in a fast-moving, high-ambiguity environment where not everything is figured out yet
  • A builder's mindset with experience creating systems, processes, CRM discipline, forecasting, and reporting that support scalable revenue growth

Location
Boston-based candidates are strongly preferred.
We are open to remote candidates for the right person, particularly those located within the Northeast Corridor with easy access to Boston and a demonstrated commitment to being present in the community.
This person will be expected to build meaningful relationships with the founder, team, partners, sponsors, and the broader BWB ecosystem. That requires regular presence in Boston and consistent engagement with the community.

Compensation
Base salary of $120,000 to $150,000 plus commission ($225,000 OTE). Full compensation details are discussed during the interview process.
