The Tsai Performance Center is a 515-seat theatre managed by Events & Conferences, a division of Auxiliary Services. In addition to Tsai, Events & Conferences is responsible for the coordination of university-wide events, room scheduling of university events, management of the summer conference operations, and the coordination of non-University conferences and events throughout the year. We are seeking applicants for the Production Manager of the Tsai Performance Center. Reporting to the Associate Director of Production Services, this position is the lead production person responsible for the preparation and execution of Tsai events for both University and external clients and the maintenance of in-house production equipment and systems. Skills
- Working with clients to coordinate technical needs of Tsai events, especially those that are high-profile, have high production values (like dance concerts, theatrical and broadcast productions), or require extensive advance planning.
- Ensuring all technical systems (lighting, sound, & media) are running properly; maintaining lighting plot; and recommending repairs, maintenance, and purchases.
- Executing events at the Tsai Center, including being on-site and actively working to produce the event alongside other professionals and student support staff.
- Working with Associate Director during the booking process, providing answers on technical capabilities and participating in site visits, as well as recommending solutions for booking Tsai for maximum efficient usage of the theatre.
- Supervising two full-time production staff, assigning and evaluating their work, and providing day-to-day support and guidance. Developing best practices for all production work to ensure the safety of the staff and the theatre.
- Hiring, training, and supervising a team of 30 student employees to run lights, sound, & media at Tsai and provide quality customer service and client support to those producing and attending Tsai events.
- Bachelor's Degree and three to five years of relevant experience, with a focus on production and technical theatre, customer service, and/or event production, and demonstrated expertise within these fields.
- Supervisory and training experience in a theatre or event production environment.
- Ability and willingness to work a varied work schedule that regularly includes evenings and weekends.
- Passion for client & audience services and the ability to remain calm and positive under pressure while effectively and diplomatically communicating with a variety of constituencies.
- Self-starter with the ability to be proactive, motivate others to do their best work, and follow through on projects independently.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, QLab, Lightwright, Vectorworks, ETC lighting consoles, Yamaha digital mixing consoles, and Dante networking preferred.
- Knowledge of Boston University and student supervisory experience is preferred.
