Full Job Description

The Operations Manager, Engineering position will be directly responsible for all operational aspects and procedures/protocols for WBUR. This will include engineering operational support for the IT and Audio Engineering teams at WBUR, event support for broadcast events/remotes and for the operational needs of all departments at WBUR. This position will be the lead for all Facility management and maintenance planning for WBUR, coordinating with BU Facilities Management and Planning and outside contractors as necessary. The Operations Manager, Engineering will manage all operational support for every department at WBUR, reporting directly to the Director of Engineering with project reports and updates, ensuring projects are being done in a timely and efficient manner.

The Operations Manager, Engineering is also directly responsible for, but not limited to, the following key areas:

  • Station vehicle fleet management and maintenance, security systems including camera installation, software configuration and card swipe accessibility, mail distribution within WBUR, and liaison to various BU departments such as Facilities, Mail Services, Parking and Transportation Services, Custodial Services and others as needed.
  • This position requires excellent project management skills and the ability to communicate effectively, written and verbally, to all partners involved. 
  • Requires the ability to work under pressure and with time sensitive deadlines often required in the broadcasting industry. 

The Operations Manager, Engineering is the direct supervisor for the following position: Operations Assistant

Skills

  • Associate/Vocational/Technical degree required, Bachelor's degree preferred with at least three to five years of related work experience.
  • Eight to ten years of experience in an operations/facilities management position may substitute for educational requirements.

The Engineering Operations Manager is an integral part of the WBUR Engineering team and will play a key role in all operational aspects of WBUR. The ability to successfully manage projects, both large and small, is a crucial part of this job in addition to supporting the daily operational needs of WBUR departments and staff. The Engineering Operations manager will be assigned projects by the Director of Engineering and will be required to manage all aspects of these projects and successfully carry them out. Some of these projects will include, but are not limited to, coordination of IT and Audio Engineering support for remote broadcasts and also for non-broadcast events, space planning and management initiatives, Facilities related projects and renovations and coordination of general building maintenance. In addition to projects, this position will also be responsible for providing daily operational support for the staff of WBUR and assisting with broadcast operational support as needed. This position will also recommend and implement policies related to operational procedures for WBUR. This position is also directly responsible for the following: Station vehicle maintenance and management, overall security of WBUR including the video security and card swipe systems, kitchen and event room supplies and maintenance, printer/copier supplies - maintenance - leasing, coordination of mail services with BU, and space change requests for staff. The Engineering operations Manager will be involved with almost every facet of WBUR and needs to be willing to provide operational support and assistance as needed. This will include times outside of normal business hours, availability during holidays and BU emergency closures and participate in the Engineering on-call schedule.
