The Staff Accountant of Financial Operations is a key member of the General Accounting and Financial Reporting team at Boston University. This position has the potential to work a hybrid schedule under the University's remote work guidelines.
Major duties of this position include:
- Prepare and analyze monthly accounting entries related to property, plant & equipment, and related depreciation. Prepares monthly schedules required for internal reporting and annual audit schedules related to the property, plant & equipment footnote.
- Prepare and analyze the accounting entries related to debt including issuance costs, principal and interest payments, debt accruals, amortization expense, and swap transactions. Coordinates with Treasury to ensure accuracy and completeness of debt related transactions. Also prepares monthly schedules required for internal reporting and annual audit schedules related to the debt footnote.
- Coordinates with other members of General Accounting and other various departments to ensure month-end closing procedures are completed in a timely manner.
- Assist in the preparation of the annual external audit, including preparing schedules and support related to audit selections. Also participate in the NCAA agreed upon procedures review.
- Assist in the preparation of the University's external reporting for filings and submissions.
- Prepare analysis derived from source data providing insights into trends and changes year over year.
- Other duties as needed to help drive to our vision, fulfill our mission, and support our team.
Salary grade 47
Minimum $53,200, Midpoint $71,900, Maximum $90,500
Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
- 1-3 years of accounting experience, preferably public accounting experience
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices
- Advanced skills utilizing Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel, including complex formulas to acquire, organize, and analyze data
- Ability to analyze data to determine relevant conclusions and suggest appropriate actions to management
- Ability to prioritize tasks and ad-hoc requests to meet or exceed deadlines
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Detail oriented, demonstrating accuracy and quality of work output
- Ability to work independently and/or collaboratively in team environment
- Self-motivated, proactive, intellectually curious
- CPA or CPA candidate
- Experience with ERP and/or SAP
