




Who you are:
The Biogen Development Head of Project and Portfolio Management is responsible for leading and managing a team of project planners and project managers to ensure the successful delivery of the Development organization's project portfolio (encompassing late research through loss of exclusivity) in line with the strategic objectives of the organization. The role encompasses oversight of project planning, execution, and portfolio management practices to optimize resource project performance while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
What You'll Do:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of project managers and planners, ensuring they have the necessary skills, knowledge, and resources to succeed.
- Foster a collaborative, results-oriented, and supportive team environment, promoting knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
- Implement and refine portfolio governance frameworks that enable optimized decision-making.
- Oversee portfolio governance from IND through Proof of Concept and technical review committees for all clinical projects.
- Monitor and report on project performance, providing insights and recommendations for improvement.
- Oversee the development and generation of reporting tools, dashboards, and self-service options to monitor and interrogate project status and advancement.
- Ensure the development of comprehensive project plans that include clear objectives, deliverables, timelines, resource allocations, and risk identification and management plans.
- Implement and oversee project management methodologies, standards, and tools.
- Cultivate advanced project management capabilities within the team, leveraging industry best practices.
- Serve as a key point of contact for stakeholders (including Finance, the Development Leadership Team, and Corporate Strategy among others) regarding project status, risks, and performance.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
- Manage stakeholder expectations through effective communication and reporting.
- Lead efforts to assess and enhance project management methodologies and tools, maintaining an understanding of emerging trends and best practices.
- Encourage a culture of continuous improvement, driving initiatives that enhance efficiency and effectiveness in project delivery.
- Contribute to the organizational strategic planning process through insights gained from portfolio performance and project trends.
- Participate actively in senior management discussions to influence the direction of project and portfolio management efforts.
- Serve as a member of the SPOQ leadership team, providing input, critique, and support to the other groups within the function.
Required Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in business, project management, health sciences, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in project and portfolio management within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
- Proven experience managing complex, multi-disciplinary projects and portfolios.
- Strong expertise in project management methodologies such as Agile and Waterfall.
- Demonstrated team leadership and people management experience, with a demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate a team.
- Strategic thinker with a focus on results and accountability.
- Innovative and adaptable to changing environments and priorities.
- Collaborative mindset with a passion for building high-performing teams.
Additional Information
Base salary offered is determined through an analytical approach utilizing a combination of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills & experience, job location, and internal equity.
