National Grid is currently seeking Rated Lineworkers (1/C and 2/C) for our Monson, MA location.

Job Purpose

Are you ready to kickstart an exciting career in our Electrical Overhead Operations department? As a first class Lineworker, you'll embark on a journey to develop a wide range of skills while working with state-of-the-art systems that keep our operations running smoothly.

What You'll Do

You'll be responsible to build and maintain the electrical power system, requiring several years of field experience. This advanced role involves constructing, maintaining, and repairing electrical distribution and transmission systems above and below ground. Duties includeworking at heights as well as climbing poles and lifting heavy equipment. Responsibilities encompass operating aerial and excavation equipment, troubleshooting system issues, setting transformers, and completing documentation and reports.

Key Accountabilities

  • Perform all duties of a Lineworker 1/C and/or Single Person Worker duties.
  • Maybe required to handle substances considered hazardous.
  • Follow all National Grid environmental policies.
  • Occasionally direct and train overhead line crew personnel.
  • Maintain various records and procure all stock as needed
  • Install and remove common meters on single- phase services as required.
  • Contribute to crew productivity, safety, and knowledge of the job.

Qualifications

  • Be proficient as a Lineworker 1/C as demonstrated by proficiency, testing and past performance appraisals.
  • Must have high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Retain appropriate qualifications on the National Grid Switching and Tagging list.
  • Be thoroughly familiar with all Construction, Operating, and Maintenance Standards, and Safety Standards and Procedures.
  • Be proficient with the use of electronic devices and maintain various records, reports, and forms regarding payroll, materials used, and condition of plant, tools, and equipment.
  • Demonstrate the ability to properly operate vehicles, tools, and equipment assigned to the department.
  • Furnish an acceptable means of off-hour contact by telephone.
  • Retain a valid motor vehicle operator's license, which does not restrict driving as to type oftransmission or hours of operation.
  • Must maintain a DOT health certificate and a System Hoisting certificate.

Location:Monson, MA

Pay Rate:Pay rate will be determined based on lineworker certificate candidate possesses at time of offer.

1/C - $54.49

2/C - $42.18

Please be advised that due to the nature of this position, incumbents are subject to federal Drug & Alcohol safety regulations governing US Department of Transportation ("DOT") covered positions, including the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Pipeline Hazardous Material Safety Administration (PHMSA). As such, the Company's testing programs and policies regarding the use of federally prohibited drugs or alcohol, for recreational or medical purposes, will remain in effect for these safety-sensitive, DOT covered positions.

Many of the terms and conditions of employment for this position are defined by a collective bargaining agreement that the Company has with a local union. Newly hired employees are bound by the terms of the collective bargaining agreement as well as other agreements between the Company and the local union.

National Grid utilizes an assessment that evaluates the job qualifications/characteristics using AI or statistically based scoring. For more information, please view NYC Local Law 144.
